Premium image quality whatever you capture. From the on-site report to the portrait in the studio to the landscape in the evening light – the EOS 5D Mark IV impresses with impressive details even in high-contrast situations. 4K video represents a whole new level of performance. Continuous shooting at up to 7 fps helps capture the perfect moment; GPS records your shooting locations. Wi-Fi with NFC enabled wireless control and quick sharing.
Innovative Dual Pixel Raw Format
The 30.4-megapixel CMOS sensor in full format impresses with its large dynamic range and the possibility of fast series shooting at up to seven frames per second (7 fps). With internal 4K video recording as well as integrated WLAN and GPS, the EOS 5D Mark IV represents a successful combination of speed, high resolution, excellent low-light properties and modern video functions. The EOS 5D Mark IV is the first EOS to feature dual pixels RAW format can be recorded. This file format allows correction or shifting of the focus point, horizontal shifting of bokeh, and reduction of lens reflections during post-processing.
The devil is in the details
At the heart of the EOS 5D Mark IV is the brand new full-frame 30.4 megapixel CMOS sensor. It offers tremendous detail in even the brightest highlights and deepest shadows. The ISO range from 100 to 32,000 can be extended to ISO 50 to 102,400, allowing for excellent shots in virtually any lighting condition. An optimized noise reduction algorithm leads to even better low-light results, which is ideal for photojournalists who have to work with the given lighting conditions on location and from the situation.
The AF system of the EOS 5D Mark IV consists of 61 AF points that cover a wide image area in a network. This makes it easier to track quickly moving faces or changing colors. The 61 AF fields – including 41 cross sensors – not only cover a large area of the sensor. They allow autofocus to be used with the optical viewfinder even at -3 EV (which is roughly equivalent to moonlight) – even down to -4 EV when the camera is in Live View mode. When using extenders on all telephoto lenses, the EOS 5D Mark IV focuses very precisely up to aperture 8 with all 61 AF fields and 21 cross sensors. The high-resolution 3.2-inch LCD display offers intuitive touchscreen control of the entire menu. It has been combined with a new AF area selector switch that allows for quick switching of the active AF point/area.
For precise exposure, subject recognition and tracking, the camera uses a 150,000-pixel exposure metering sensor (IR and RGB), whose data is processed by its own DIGIC 6 processor.
Speed is key
The EOS 5D Mark IV was designed for the highest demands on speed, so that no moment, no matter how fleeting, is lost. Special technologies for high-speed reading of the DIGIC 6+ data enable fast continuous shooting with up to seven images per second at full resolution and AF/AE tracking. Up to 21 RAWs or an unlimited number of JPEGs can be recorded in such a sequence. For situations where discretion is important – such as recording breaking news or animals in their natural environment – the camera offers “Quiet Recording” and “Quiet Continuous Shooting” modes, which reduce recording noise to a minimum.
The Big Leap to 4K Video
With the EOS 5D Mark IV, 4K video is available to those who want to express their stories with moving images. With DCI 4K (4,096 x 2,160 pixels) at 30/25/24 frames per second, the camera once again shows its versatility: individual images with 8.8 megapixels each can be extracted from the 4K videos in-camera – an ideal option if you are shooting film and needs photos. As streaming services increasingly demand content recorded using the latest technologies on the market, high recording quality is more important than ever. The EOS 5D Mark IV offers the entire performance package: 4K, 120 frames per second in HD, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, time-lapse videos and a new HDR movie mode.
Advanced control options and connectivity
With its numerous new and improved features, the EOS 5D Mark IV offers unique flexibility and extensive connectivity. The integrated WLAN enables secure data transfer (FTPS/FTP) as well as remote control of the camera via a mobile device with the Canon Camera Connect app installed. In addition, NFC ensures easy connection to compatible mobile devices. GPS adds location information to EXIF image data, making it easier to organize shots. IPTC data, which contains, for example, recording information, can also be automatically embedded into the image data for the first time.
Improved protection against dust and splash water makes the camera ideal for photographers or photojournalists working in extreme environmental conditions.
