The 50.6 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor is capable of capturing an enormous level of detail. The extremely high-resolution sensor enables image sections of even small areas with high image quality. The integrated recording functions with 1.3x or 1.6x image detail result in images with a resolution of 30.5 or 19.6 megapixels, respectively.

Reduced mirror shake for maximum image sharpness
The EOS 5DS uses a special system developed by Canon to reduce mirror shake, which is caused by movement inside the camera and can affect image quality and resolution. Special mechanisms take over the controlled up and down movement of the mirror, which prevents it from stopping abruptly and also dampens the noise of the mirror hitting.

Advanced subject detection and tracking
The EOS iTR AF (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) system uses color and facial information to detect moving subjects within the frame and track them in focus. The response speed of the AF can be changed using an easy-to-use tool so that the focus tracking is adapted to the shooting situation and subject – objects that briefly cross the main subject have no disruptive influence on focusing.
61-point wide-area autofocus
The 61-point AF system enables quick and precise focusing even in low light. The 41 cross sensors provide additional precision, of which 5 fields are double cross sensors.
Protection against environmental influences
The robust housing made of magnesium alloy and the controls protected from the ingress of dust and moisture provide the security of being able to take photographs from afar regardless of the weather conditions.
