Specifically designed for the ultimate DSLR image quality, the camera offers 50.6 megapixel resolution and a low-pass cancellation filter for increased sensor sharpness.
More details and image quality on a new level
The 50.6 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor is capable of capturing an enormous level of detail. The extremely high-resolution sensor enables image sections of even small areas with high image quality. The integrated recording functions with 1.3x or 1.6x image detail result in images with a resolution of 30.5 or 19.6 megapixels, respectively.
Fine art prints in A0 format and larger
The enormous power of the Dual DIGIC 6 processor enables high-resolution large format prints (in format A0 and larger, with low image noise, natural skin tones and extremely precise color reproduction.
Low pass cancellation filter
In a conventional DSLR, the low-pass filter in front of the camera sensor reduces digital artifacts such as moiré effects and color fringing. However, such filters also lead to a slight softening of the image. For the EOS 5DS R, this effect of the low-pass filter has been removed to achieve the highest possible image sharpness. The resulting low risk of digital artifacts makes the EOS 5DS R a great choice for outdoor shooting or in controlled studio environments – for all other applications the EOS 5DS could prove to be a better choice.
Reduced mirror shake for maximum image sharpness
The EOS 5DS R uses a special system developed by Canon to reduce mirror shake, which is caused by movement inside the camera and can affect image quality and resolution. Special mechanisms take over the controlled up and down movement of the mirror, which prevents it from stopping abruptly and also dampens the noise of the mirror hitting.
Immediate response – react to every action
The Dual DIGIC 6 processor ensures fast response and fast processing of the image information – even with the enormous amounts of data that the 50.6 megapixel sensor records. With an unparalleled 5 frames per second in a resolution of 50.6 megapixels, you won’t miss any action. The USB 3.0 connectivity enables fast tethered shooting and remote camera control.
AF point selection
All 61 AF points can be used together or grouped into movable groups to cover subjects outside the center of the image. Alternatively, a single AF point can be used to precisely focus on a specific area of the image.
Advanced subject detection and tracking
The EOS iTR AF (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) system uses color and facial information to detect moving subjects within the frame and track them in focus. The response speed of the AF can be changed using an easy-to-use tool so that the focus tracking is adapted to the shooting situation and subject – objects that briefly cross the main subject have no disruptive influence on focusing.
Protection against environmental influences
The robust housing made of magnesium alloy and the controls protected from the ingress of dust and moisture provide the security of being able to take photographs from afar regardless of the weather conditions.
High Dynamic Range (HDR) recordings
The HDR function offers a high level of detail, even in particularly dark or bright areas. Ideal for landscape photography and still life, this mode combines three shots with different exposures (standard, underexposed, overexposed) into one image
Recordings using a timer function
An integrated interval timer enables time-lapse recordings with preset time intervals. For shots with extremely long exposure times, the shutter can be set to a defined time in long exposure mode (B).
