Product description for Fujifilm GFX 50R
New dimensions – The mirrorless medium format camera FUJIFILM GFX 50R
FUJIFILM managed to revitalize medium format photography with the introduction of the GFX system two years ago. The resolution of 51.4 megapixels, the impressive tonal reproduction, the unique color reproduction and extremely powerful lenses – the level of the GFX is pure inspiration. With the market launch of the new mirrorless medium format camera FUJIFILM GFX 50R in the style of a rangefinder camera, photography at the highest level is now even more versatile.
The FUJIFILM GFX 50R has a large image sensor in the FUJIFILM G format (medium format 43.8 x 32.9 mm) with a resolution of 51.4 megapixels. The sensor is approximately 1.7 times larger than a full-frame sensor *1 .
Like the current GFX 50S, the GFX 50R offers outstanding image quality, but is 145 grams lighter and 25 millimeters thinner than its sister model. Designed in the style of a classic rangefinder camera, the GFX 50R continues the legacy of legendary medium format cameras from FUJIFILM. With this camera, which weighs just 775 grams, you can take snapshots and street scenes in the highest image quality. The FUJIFILM GFX 50R opens up new dimensions for the GFX system.
Compact and lightweight in the rangefinder camera style
The FUJIFILM GFX 50R weighs only 775 grams *2 , making it approximately 145 grams lighter than the GFX 50S (weight 920 grams with EVF), which is already a light and compact model among existing digital medium format cameras . The camera body of the GFX 50R is only 66.4 millimeters thick, making it 25 millimeters thinner than the body of the GFX 50S. This makes it even more portable and easier to store.
The GFX 50R’s rangefinder camera design allows the photographer to keep an eye on the subject while looking through the viewfinder with the other eye. This gives the photographer a good overview of the overall scene and beyond the image section displayed in the electronic viewfinder.
The GFX 50R’s electronic viewfinder has 3.69 million pixels and offers 0.77x magnification. This allows for accurate focusing despite the large medium format sensor, which has a shallower depth of field than a full frame sensor when photographing at the same angle of view.
Equipped with 51.4 megapixel medium format sensor and X-Processor Pro
The FUJIFILM GFX 50R has a 43.8 x 32.9 mm CMOS medium format sensor with 51.4 megapixels. The sensor combines FUJIFILM’s decades of experience and expertise in medium format photography with the latest digital technology. In combination with the powerful GF lenses, outstanding tonal value reproduction and extremely high image resolution are achieved.
The microlens design and signal processing have been optimized to provide maximum sharpness and a wide dynamic range. The low base sensitivity of ISO 100 and the high dynamic range of 14 f-stops (14-bit RAW) allow extremely detailed shots with natural skin tones and precise color reproduction.
The GFX 50R’s X-Processor Pro is optimally set up to process the large volume of data from the 51.4 megapixel sensor. This not only allows for a high working speed, but also contributes to the camera’s impressive range of performance. FUJIFILM’s unique film simulations, the internal RAW conversion to 8-bit TIFF, the precise contrast autofocus, the short switch-on time, the very fast release time and the fast frame rate are only possible with the X-Processor Pro.
Robust and weatherproof housing
When manufacturing the compact and lightweight housing, FUJIFILM placed great emphasis on details to enable perfect operation. This is visible in the design language of individual components as well as in the surface structure of the magnesium components. The two adjustment wheels for shutter speed and exposure compensation were milled from solid aluminum blocks and provide a high-quality feel. The mechanics of the adjustment wheels are particularly sophisticated; their precise position is confirmed by a delicate click.
Bluetooth compatibility for the first time in the GFX series
The GFX 50R is the first model in the GFX series to support energy-saving Bluetooth technology. Captured images can be easily and instantly transferred via the FUJIFILM Camera Remote app to smartphones and tablets previously paired with the camera.
The GFX 50R is also equipped with a focus joystick.
It allows the focus range to be adjusted quickly and easily without having to take the camera off your eyes.
The extremely robust housing made of magnesium alloy is sealed in 64 places.
The GFX 50R is dust-protected, weatherproof and fully operational at temperatures down to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
※ Many features of the GFX 50R, including the 35mm format mode, are available for the GFX 50S through a firmware update*3.
*1 36mm × 24mm image sensors used by many DSLRs
*2 Operating weight (including battery and storage media weight)
*3 Expected in October 2018 to add LCD/EVF color adjustment and other functions to the GFX 50S to integrate.
