A new lens design has made it possible to avoid the optical distortion that typically occurs with ultra-wide-angle lenses; digital correction is therefore unnecessary. This property contributes to the lens’ high-resolution performance right into the corners of the image. 

The optical structure consists of 10 elements in 7 groups, including 2 aspherical lenses and 3 extra-low dispersion ED lenses. The edges of the seven aperture blades have been rounded to guarantee the highest image quality. The lens is equipped with a distance and depth of field scale, which enables pre-focusing, for example. With an initial aperture of F2.8, the lens is also suitable for shooting in low-light conditions. The short shooting distance of just 18 cm allows the background to be blurred into aesthetic blur without losing the perspective properties of an ultra-wide-angle lens. 

The small flange of the FUJIFILM X bayonet effectively prevents edge shadowing in the corners of the image. Typical image errors such as distortion and chromatic aberrations are minimized. This guarantees high-resolution performance right into the corners of the image.
